On April 11th, 2017 Lithuanian Energy Institute together with Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre and Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment started the project “Ecological flow estimation in Latvian–Lithuanian trans-boundary river basins”. Main purpose of the project is to prepare an elaborate new methodology on E-Flow evaluation based on habitat simulation model and recommendations for the amendment to national water legislation. The new legislation would ensure effective implementation of E-flow principles, improvement of the strategic planning for water uses and the permitting process.
During the summer of 2018 project experts started to organize a second round of habitat surveys, which will be held in the Lielupė River basin (in surroundings of the districts municipalities of Panevežys and Pakruojis). During 11-14 of June, 2018 project experts collected hidromorphological and biological data at the Mūša, Suosa and Lėvuo Rivers.
