The aim of the project “Developing a strategy for bringing R&D&I activities closer to citizens (No. 10-040-T-0030)” is to analyse the potential of the Lithuanian Energy Institute researchers in order to intensify the promotion of scientific achievements to the public and to prepare a strategy for bringing research and experimental development (R&D) activities closer to citizens and involving them in science campaigns. The estimated duration of the project is 8 months.
The Lithuanian Energy Institute will contribute to the creation of an innovation and knowledge-based economy and to the development of a knowledge-based society through consultancy, expert and other public education activities. The 4 project’s tasks and their 11 action programme are focused on wider and clearer dissemination of the Institute’s new scientific achievements to the general public and promotion of the participation of researchers, involving citizen science in research and experimental development. To this end, direct communication with school and high school students, college and university students and representatives of associated communities will be expanded by presenting the Institute’s achievements to them and discussing the possibility of carrying out small collaborative projects. In order to strengthen the knowledge of LEI researchers in generating science popularisation and Citizen Science initiatives, training and guidance will be provided to project’s participants and representatives of scientific laboratories who plan to participate in the popularisation of scientific achievements to the general public and to prepare themselves for the effective management of Citizen Science projects.
The project is both socially and economically important, as it will aim to harness the potential of ideas and technical solutions in civil society as effectively as possible, and the development of the strategy will guide the course of action for the realisation of the concept of Citizen Science, mobilising opportunities for the Institute’s researchers to work together with citizens to develop and commercialise innovative R&D products.
