Increasing political pressure demands the reduction of maritime transport emissions by all possible means to comply with the Paris Agreement and achieve decarbonization targets set at national, regional, and international levels. This project aims to conduct experimental studies to validate the hypothesis proposed by ERC, focusing on thin-layer structured coatings with hydrophobic properties to assess their impact on the onset of the second-degree boiling crisis, offering new solutions for reducing hydrodynamic resistance from a future technology perspective. Considering the untapped potential of such coatings, the project proposes modifying existing ones to control the studied processes. These innovations have the potential to significantly contribute to maritime decarbonization and long-term sustainability goals.
