The first field survey of the ICEREG project took place

The first field survey of the project “Ice-jam flood risk management in Latvian and Lithuanian regions with respect to climate change” (ICEREG) was accomplished on September 3-6, 2024. During the field measurements, the project experts (Vytautas Akstinas, Serhii Nazarenko, Darius Jakimavičius ir Diana Meilutytė-Lukauskienė) from Lithuanian Energy Institute measured cross-sections and discharge in Lėvuo River and Sanžilė Channel. The heights of river valley, river channel geometry, flow velocity and water surface slope data were collected. In total, 55 cross-sections were measured in the Lėvuo River stretch between Paliūniškis and Skaistgiriai. In addition, bridges and other hydrotechnical structures that could have a significant influence on the formation of ice-jam events were evaluated. The collected data will be used to calibrate the hydrodynamic model of the Lėvuo River to understand ice-jam floods in the Lėvuo River basin.
